Cushing is a 138′ x15′ steam powered torpedo boat designed by N.G. Herreshoff and built by Herreshoff Mfg. Co., Bristol, Rhode Island in 1890. Cushing was designated by the Navy as Torpedo Boat No. 1. Her hull was riveted steel and her two quadruple-expansion engines the largest NGH ever designed.
