Whaleboats were mostly built by The Beetle Boat Shop of New Bedford, Massachusetts, up until about 1920. Typically, they measure about 28′6″ x 6′4″ and can be rowed (five oars most common) and sailed in pursuit of whales spotted from the masthead of the mother whaleship.
